Hispanic Pastoral Affairs
The mission of Hispanic ministry in the Archdiocese of Washington is to proclaim the Gospel in the Hispanic/Latino community and to bring all Hispanic Catholics into full, enthusiastic participation in the life and mission of the Church, while strengthening the unity of the One Body of Christ. This mission is accomplished by:
- Welcoming the presence of Hispanic Catholics and building community among them and among the whole local Church
- Reaching out to Hispanic Catholics inactive in their faith and to Hispanics with no church affiliation
- Dialoguing with Hispanics who belong to other Christian denominations or faith communities
- Affirming and promoting the cultural identity of Hispanic/Latino Catholics while at the same time respecting the cultural identity of the faithful who are not Hispanic
- Expressing and celebrating the faith in a spirit of communion and participation
- Promoting social justice in a spirit of solidarity and responding to the needs and aspirations of the poor and vulnerable
- Inviting and training ordained, religious and lay ministers to serve in the Hispanic community and inviting and training Hispanics to be ministers in the Church
- Providing catechesis and faith formation for Hispanic Catholics of all ages
