Litany of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus

“The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ?” In his letter to the Corinthians (1Cor. 10:16) St. Paul reminds us of the saving power of Our Lord’s blood which he offers to us in every celebration of the Eucharist.

In the month of July we celebrate the Feast of the Precious Blood to remember that the blood is the living symbol of our redemption and of Jesus’ death on the Cross. Pope Clement VI writes “the value of the blood of Christ, on account of its union with the Logos (Word), is so great that one little drop would have sufficed for the redemption of the whole human race.”

Following the Second Vatican Council, the Church combined the feast of the Precious Blood with Corpus Christi. Together these two feasts help us to enter more deeply into the mystery of the humanity and divinity of Jesus. The shedding of his blood is not only proof of his humanity but also contains the mystery of the real presence of the bread and wine which becomes the body and blood of Christ.

We invite you to pray the litany of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus in gratitude for having been saved in Christ Jesus.
